Turkey is tightening ties with the occupied territories

Ties of complete dependence on the Turkish occupation are the goal set by the Erdogan government, with the presence of Ersin Tatar at the helm of the Turkish Cypriot leadership making his job even easier. The relations of dependence of the occupation regime from Ankara were timeless. Recently, the Turkish actions have become even more overt, which of course are not unrelated to the new demands put on the negotiating table by the Turkish side.

Movements that aim to torpedo any prospect of resuming the process, blackmailing the “new ideas” as a one-way street in the process. In the same context are the moves aimed at strengthening the occupation regime in the context of the Tatar provocatively repeated claim of sovereign equality.

Last night, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan had a telephone conversation with the occupying leader Ersin Tatar in which he stressed that the Turkish Cypriots are not alone in the fight against the pandemic.

According to a Güneş report, citing the FSA newsletter, the Turkish Cypriot leader and the Turkish President spoke by telephone on the occasion of the Muslim holiday of Regaip Kandili (the night before the first Friday of the month of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which is considered the arrest of the Prophet Muhammad by the mother of Amine Hatun).

According to the report, Tatar and Erdogan discussed the latest developments in the Cyprus issue, the Covid-19 pandemic and the issue of vaccinations.

Erdogan told Tatar that the Turkish Cypriots are not alone in the fight against the pandemic and that Turkey will continue to provide them with all possible support, as it has done to date.

Tatar replied that they would continue to have close and productive relations with Turkey and thanked Erdogan on behalf of the Turkish Cypriot “people”.

A report by Halkın Sesi also reports that Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay has invited the “Platform of Economic Organizations” to Ankara. According to the newspaper, the businessmen intend to request more vaccines from Turkey to be sent to the occupied territories to deal with the pandemic.

A delegation of the “platform”, consisting of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce, the Turkish Cypriot “Chamber of Industry”, the “Builders 'Association” and the “Hoteliers' Association”, will travel to the Turkish capital on Tuesday (February 23rd).

According to the president of the Chamber of Commerce, Turgay Deniz, the delegation will meet with Oktay and will have a single issue on its agenda. “We will ask for more vaccines,” he said, noting that they would have met with Oktay during the Turkish Vice President's recent illegal visit to the occupied territories, but that this meeting could not take place due to lack of time.

“The salvation of the economy depends on the supply of vaccines,” he said, adding: “This vaccine can only be supplied between states. That means you can't buy this vaccine with money. That is why we had appealed to all those in charge, starting with Mr. Tatar, to carry out lobbying activities. Both in Turkey and in the European Union. I hope we can give good news on Wednesday after Tuesday's meeting. Because we have to convince. We must take advantage of the fact that our population is small. […] If we vaccinate the whole population, we will put [the issue] on the world agenda and our non-recognition will be overcome. There will be an explosion in our tourism. We can ensure that people from abroad come and buy houses. “Ως As a geographical area we are even smaller than a neighborhood in Turkey”.

Controversy over ICC

The form and model of solution in the occupied territories is still a point of contention for those who support the two states with those who support the federation.

According to the GTP, Avrupa makes headlines in the “Platform This Country is Ours” which stated that the most important thing in the inter-communal talks for the settlement of the Cyprus problem is the creation of opportunities for honest and mutual cooperation between the two communities and “achieving of a united Cyprus which is the most realistic solution “.

In a written statement signed by Sener Yeltsil, secretary general of the T / C teachers' union, the Platform notes that the agreements reached between the two communities during the UN-sponsored talks showed that the only solution is a bi-communal federation based on political equality.
