The initiative of President Nikos Christodoulidis for a more active involvement of the EU in the resumption of talks, but also the decisive role of Turkey in the intended mobility after the elections in the country, was highlighted by the President of DIKO Nikolas Papadopoulos during his meeting on Friday with his Special Representative Secretary General of the UN in Cyprus, Colin Stewart.

According to an announcement by DIKO, the meeting was also attended by the Deputy President Christiana Erotokritou, the Vice President Michalis Damianos and Nicosia Member of Parliament Chrysis Pantelidis.

At the meeting, as reported, Mr. Papadopoulos explained to Mr. Stewart the reasoning behind President Christodoulides' proposal for a more active involvement of the European Union in efforts to restart negotiations and claim a solution to the Cyprus problem, stressing that DIKO unreservedly supports this proposal.< /p>

Also discussed was the absolutely decisive role of Turkey in the Cyprus issue, after the recent elections in the country, in terms of the intended mobility, as well as the economic, demographic and energy manipulation of the Turkish community by the Ankara, as well as its methods for assimilating the occupied territories.

The President of DIKO also pointed out to the Special Representative of the Secretary General, the change in the Turkish narrative after the emergence of Tatars in the leadership of the Turkish community, which now openly aims for a two-state solution, which is unacceptable, outside the agreed basis and unacceptable.

The Deputy President of DIKO, Mrs. Christiana Erotokritou, raised the issue of Turkish expansionist illegalities in occupied Famagusta, while also referring to the systematic provocations of Turkish soldiers at the expense of local farmers in Denia.

Regarding the development of initiatives for business cooperation between the two communities, the President of DIKO stated that there is room for discussion, always within the framework of the Green Line Regulation and with the understanding that this will not be done in a way that upgrades the pseudo-state. In this regard, Nicosia Member of Parliament Chrysis Pantelidis highlighted the serious problem of unfair competition at the expense of businesses in the free zones due to violations of the Green Line Regulation.
