A Turkish unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that entered Iraqi airspace was shot down today in Kirkuk (north), Reuters news agency reports citing sources from the country's police and armed forces.
The drone crashed in center of Kirkuk and caused a fire which threatened houses, fortunately without casualties, Iraqi police sources said. Thanks to the timely intervention of the fire department, the fire was quickly brought under control.

Iraqi air defenses. However, an Iraqi colonel – who asked not to be named – revealed that the search of the wreckage showed that it was a Turkish military drone, which was armed.

The representative of the Turkish Foreign Ministry Onju Ketseli shared the announcement of the Iraqi army on the X platform (formerly Twitter), commenting: “We are working with the Iraqi authorities to shed light on every detail of the incident.” Ketseli did not confirm in his post whether the drone was Turkish. But he added that “Turkey continues its fight against the terrorist organization that has nested in the territory of Iraq”, referring to the fighters of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
