Two more vultures died from electric shock – Call to the EAC to take action

<p>Two more vultures fell victim to the electricity distribution network, bringing the total number of birds that died from electric shock to 6, according to what BirdLife Cyprus announced today.</p>
<p>The incidents occurred on August 2 and 25 at electricity poles. The first incident happened near Agios Ioannis in Paphos and the second in Pentalia. </p>
<p>Electric shock has been confirmed by the Veterinary Services as the cause of death in both cases.</p>
<p>“The losses concern two female vultures, Iris and CAN, aged three and one respectively, which were brought to Cyprus from Spain in the context of the effort to prevent the extinction of the species”, he notes in the announcement.</p>

<p><img decoding= BirdLife Cyprus emphasizes the need for immediate action, calling on the Cyprus Electricity Authority to effectively replace or insulate dangerous piles to prevent further losses.

Despite recent efforts by EAC to insulate stakes in Kelokedara, BirdLife said that the insulation remains insufficient.
