The forest fire, which broke out at 11.22, in an area of the Mathiatis Community, was brought under full control.
According to the Forest Department, the fire was brought under full control at 11:50 after it burned an area of 4 hectares covered with pine forest, low wild vegetation and shrubs.
To extinguish the fire, 19 people from the Forest Department attempted with 7 fire trucks and 3 people from the Fire Service with 1 fire truck. Volunteers from the Mathiatis community participated in the firefighting operation with a small fire truck.
We also assisted in extinguishing one of the planes of the Forest Department.
Firefighters remain in the area to deal with a possible resurgence.
The exact causes of the fire are being investigated.
The Forest Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment asks the public to be especially careful and to avoid activities that may cause fire, due to the intensity of the winds.
