We are closely monitoring the issue of fake diplomas, said today the “prime minister”, Unal Ustel, as this is taking on dimensions in the occupied territories and arrests are increasing. “Every person living in this country agrees that, regardless of their position, they should not turn a blind eye to any illegal activity that goes on and harms the entire industry.”

The arrests as part of the investigation into the “Cyprus Health and Social Sciences University (KSTU)” in Morphou which allegedly awarded fake degrees and diplomas for money is the main topic in the vast majority of print and electronic media in the occupied territories today.

A total of five people were detained yesterday, including the former “minister of education” and “MP” of the KEE, Kemal Durust who was the deputy chairman of the “board” of the said “university” and allegedly embezzled 926,000 TL with fake receipts for “offering of services”, while his wife and “director” of the “social insurance department”, Meral Durust, holds a fake degree from this “university” where she studied for 2 years but got a 4-year degree.

The “principal” of the “University”, Serdar Guduz, Amir Sekerif, “director of international relations” and Serdar Kuru, director of the Alusal company, were also arrested in the same case. The first two allegedly received more than 120,000 TL each and together with the third were detained for 6 days by the “Provincial Court of Morphou” while Durust who is accused of “fake receipts of services” was detained for three days. The woman was taken to the “provincial court” of Nicosia and was detained for three days.

According to the local press, the “police” searched the Duroust's house as well as their cars and found several items. The “police” investigation is focused on how many people have obtained fake passports from the institution in question and how many others are involved in this ring.
