Undersecretary Tourism: We will work to increase tourist stays in Troodos

Τουρισ μού: Θα εργαστούμε για αύξηση τησ διαμονorς τουριστoν στο Τρoοδος /></p> <p>We will continue to work intensively to find ways to increase tourism in the wider area of ​​Troodos and to further promote special forms of tourism, Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis said on Monday at KYPE, after being informed by the Tourism Development and Promotion Company ( ETAP) Troodos, for the decrease recorded by overnight stays of tourists in the mountain resort of the island, in contrast to day trips.</p> <p>Mr. Koumis sat in on a meeting with the Board of Directors of ETAP Troodos, at the cultural center of Platres, which took place at the initiative of the Under-Minister of Tourism and within the framework of the new Under-Minister's decision to visit all the regions.</p> <p> The Under-Minister Tourism told KYPE that ETAP Troodos submitted a memorandum to find ways to increase tourism in the wider Troodos area and to improve the area's connectivity with Larnaca and Paphos airports, as well as other issues that concern it.</p> <p >He said that the local rulers also raised the issue of the development of special forms of tourism that suit the area, such as walking and cycling tourism, and requested the mediation of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism to get in touch with tour operators specializing in both these forms of tourism.</p> <p> In addition, Mr. Koumis said that they asked to find ways to increase domestic tourism in the region, while they also touched on the issue of the low number of overnight stays in the region.</p> <p> < p>Regarding the low number of arrivals in the region, the Deputy Minister said that "we will try to deal with this problem" and added that an effort will also be made to find those ways to further promote special forms of tourism and "in general to deal with any problems that exist in the region and to find those solutions that will lead to further development in the region".</p > <p>Besides, in statements to journalists, Mr. Koumis mentioned that only 2% of tourists who visit our country seem to choose Troodos for accommodation, attributing it to the search for different forms of entertainment and also to cooperation with travel agents.</p> <p>"We should see the profile of the visitors, who should be those who love nature, those who seek authentic experiences, they are the walkers, the cyclists, and we should work more intensively in this direction and with the organizations from abroad who have this kind of clientele,' he added.</p> <p>He also mentioned that  "the first promise we have made is that we, as the Deputy Ministry of Tourism who have expertise in relation to who is involved in determining the market message, will give data to ETAP Troodos to start some cooperation efforts with foreign travel agents , who have clients based on the profile of tourists visiting Troodos.</p> <p> He also added that, for his part, the Deputy Ministry, "using our own human resources, we will proceed with more intense actions promotion of the Troodos region”, indicating at the same time that “it is not easy to change the numbers from one day to the next”. of the State, which will be announced when, as he said, the discussions mature.</p> <p>He emphasized, moreover, that the Deputy Ministry aims to n’ developed closer cooperation with ETAP Troodos and assured that «we will continue to work intensively for better days  in the area of ​​Troodos.</p> <p>Thanking the Deputy Minister for the visit, the President of ETAP Troodos, Nikos Matthaiou, stated that Mr. Koumis was informed about the various problems concerning the tourist product of the region and especially about the decrease in the number of tourists staying in Troodos.</p > <p> «The point is to give some incentives to the tour organizers abroad, so that they can take people to the mountain resorts of Troodos, either in hotels or in tourist accommodations," said Mr. Matthaiou.</p > <p> Asked about it, he said that infrastructure and services exist, as well as points of special interest that can be visited by local and foreign tourists, while he clarified that the decrease is recorded in the number of tourists who choose Troodos for their stay , in contrast to the daily excursion, which records an increase.</p> <p> In the context of the meetings of the new Deputy Minister of Tourism with the Tourism Development Companies, he will hold will be held next Thursday, at the Limassol EBE, with the Limassol Region Tourism Development and Promotion Company.</p> <p> Read also: The position of Cyprus on the world map of happiness – Which is the first country</p> <p>  </p> <p> Source: KYPE </p> <p><noindex></p> <div class=Source: www.sigmalive.com
