The Cyprus Football Federation is not indifferent to the problems identified in relation to the refereeing and the use of the VAR in the Cypriot stadiums, while they understand to some extent the reactions that exist from the actors and the fans.
However, according to the insiders of the KOP, some of the reactions of the actors in the last matches are considered excessive. According to what a reliable source told us, although the leaders of the federation acknowledge the shortcomings or weaknesses that exist, but they are not carried away by some strong positions made for the refereeing or for specific phases.
In addition to our attempt to find out how the KOP evaluates the complaints of some teams for the refereeing in the last matches, we tried to find out if there are any thoughts for making additional decisions.
In particular, when asked if they are currently oriented to invite foreign referees other than those in charge of the VAR, the answer we received was no, mainly for two reasons: firstly there are no referees from advanced leagues and secondly such a decision will brings additional costs to the federation.
The effort of KOP, as it was emphasized to us, focuses on the further training and education of the referees in relation to the operation of the VAR. For example, in the KOP they agree with the views of the fans and the actors regarding the excessive time that a phase needs to be considered and the decision made by the referee, whenever it is done.
This is an issue that is expected to concern the arbitrators in the near future, and in particular Milorad Majic, who also acknowledges the problems that exist and to which he has referred many times in public.
The Serbian referee closely monitors the course of the referees, evaluates the new referees, to whom he gives opportunities and depending on their performance and development will take the necessary actions to reduce both mistakes and prejudice.
