Unemployment fell to 5.9% in March

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Cyprus fell to 5.9% in March, from 6.3% in February and 8.2% a year earlier, in March 2021, according to data published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. Eurostat estimates the number of unemployed in Cyprus at 28,000 from 31,000 in March 2021.

The unemployment rate for women (6.5%) remains higher than for men (5.3%) and youth unemployment (under 25) is still in double digits, at 16% down from 18.4% in March last year. In the euro area, unemployment fell to 6.8%, from 6.9% in February 2022 and from 8.2% in March 2021. The unemployment rate in the EU was 6.2% in March 2022, from 6.3% in February 2022 and from 7.5% in March 2021.

In March 2022, the youth unemployment rate was 13.9% in both the EU as well as in the euro area, from 14% in both regions last year.

The unemployment rate for women in the EU was 6.6%, stable compared to February 2022. The unemployment rate for men was 5.9% in March 2022, compared to 6% in February 2022.
