In a statement, the Cyprus Swimming Federation states that “Kyriakos Oxinos, a swimmer of the Kyrenia Nautical Club, left early for the long trip. The 24-year-old Kyriakos lost his life in a car accident, plunging his parents, his brother, his friends and the swimming family into heavy mourning”, reports the Cyprus Swimming Federation, expressing its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased Kyriakos” .
A photograph of the unfortunate young man, from Kyriakos' last participation in swimming competitions in 2017, was published by the Federation.
It is noted that the fatal collision happened ten minutes after midnight, when a car driven by the 24-year-old, on Griva Digeni Avenue, at some point of the avenue (opposite Metohi Kykkos), under circumstances that are being investigated,  ; deviated from his course, partially climbed the dividing island of the road and then crashed into an adjacent tree.
Subsequently, the unfortunate 24-year-old was extricated by members of the Fire Service.
Then , was taken by ambulance to Nicosia General Hospital, where shortly before three in the morning, he succumbed to his injuries.
At the same time, friends of the unfortunate young man say goodbye to him with messages on social media.
In a post, the friendly face of Kyriakos Oxynos wrote “a young child comes into your life and manages to fill your heart with love and joy. It softens you, makes you a better person, makes you want to be a role model. You taught me what it means to say that to be family, you don't have to share the same blood. I was proud of you every day. Life can't be more unfair than this. Rest in peace little brother. Until we meet again.”
“It was enough for me to tell you that you love me like your brother, the rest was unnecessary. Good heavens my little friend. I love you”, says another post of a friend of the unfortunate young man.
- Another tragedy… 24-year-old Kyriakos Oxynos passed out on the asphalt
