Unvaccinated 8 out of 10 patients treated with coronavirus at the Reference Hospital

78% of patients with coronavirus who are treated at the General Hospital of Famagusta, which operates as a Reference Hospital, have no history of vaccination, said Amalia Hatzigianni, Scientific Director of the Larnaca-Famagusta Hospitals, at KYPE.

He added that “today at the General Hospital of Famagusta 60 patients are being treated, 15 of which in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as they need closer monitoring. The average age of the people being treated is 69 years old, the youngest patient is 36 years old and the oldest is 91 both without a history of vaccination “.

He noted that “78% of patients admitted to the Referral Hospital are not vaccinated. The Larnaca General Hospital currently treats 32 patients with COVID-19, of which 7 in MAF conditions. The Eden Rehabilitation Center hosts 110 people who are positive for the coronavirus, who after ten days, according to the protocol, will be released, while 27 patients are being treated in the Post-COVID ward “.

In a relevant question, Ms. Hatzigianni answered that “there has been stability in the admission of patients with coronavirus to hospitals, due to the reduction of cases in the community. “The condition is manageable,” he said, sending the message that “the sooner the patient informs his personal doctor of any possible coronavirus symptoms, the sooner treatment will begin and the outcome of the disease will be smooth with a happy ending.”

He also said that “vaccination of the public seems to work since even people who have been vaccinated and may end up in the Intensive Care Unit, pass the disease more mildly and recover faster.”

Regarding the vaccinations in the free province of Famagusta, Ms. Hatzigianni said that “the flow of people who go to the Vaccination Centers to receive the 1st, 2nd and 3rd dose of the vaccine is increased and this fact is very optimistic. “Every day, 400-450 adults are vaccinated who receive any dose of vaccine, while weekly, 80 children aged 5-11 are vaccinated by appointment.”

He also noted that “since mid-December, when the vaccination of children began, until today, a total of 217 children have been vaccinated in the free province of Famagusta.”
