The University of Cyprus, the first and largest public university in Cyprus with approximately 7,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students and approximately 700 academic and administrative staff positions, it is a modern, diverse and evolving organization.

The University of Cyprus, through its Medical School, is also ranked in the top 201-250 universities worldwide in the field of Clinical Medicine and Health Sciences (𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱), according to the international annual ranking of Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2022 by subject: Clinical and Health. The Medical School was placed in this position, among a total of 925 Medical Schools or Departments of Universities, thus occupying the highest position among the Medical/Departments of the Universities of Cyprus and Greece that participated.

Aiming to function as a beacon of scientific thought, diversity, participation, equality and creativity, the University of Cyprus envisions its future as an Institution with a leading role in the wider Euro-Mediterranean region. Oriented to internationalization, the University of Cyprus actively participates in the “Alliance of New Universities for the Future of Europe – YUFE”, which secured funding from the European Commission for the creation of one of the first “European Universities”. The University of Cyprus also joined the Young European Research Universities Network & nbsp; (YERUN) as part of its strategic goal of expanding its international and research collaborations.

As part of its continuous development, in 2013, the University of Cyprus established the first public Medical School in Cyprus. The mission of the Medical School of the University of Cyprus is diverse and includes the offer of quality undergraduate and postgraduate education, the elaboration of an international research project and the contribution to the continuous and quality upgrade of the provided health services in Cyprus, for the benefit of the citizens. In order to achieve its mission, the Medical School has established strategic collaborations with important health service providers such as the State Health Services Organization (OKYPY), the Oncology Center of the Bank of Cyprus and the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics.

Well-known academic and medical staff

The Medical School, which is in the process of rapid development, is constantly staffed with renowned academic medical staff (http://www.ucy.ac.cy/medical/el/staff/academic-staff), which & nbsp; offers services of health in the hospitals of OKYPY in Nicosia and the Oncology Center of the Bank of Cyprus. Quality Study Programs

The Medical School of the University of Cyprus is the first in Cyprus to be certified by the Quality Assurance and Certification Body of Higher Education (DIPAE), in collaboration with the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). The high level undergraduate program offered attracts the best secondary school students from Cyprus and Greece every year.

The purpose of the undergraduate program is the training of young doctors, who, upon completion of their studies, be able to join specialization programs and then work in the Health System both in Cyprus and abroad. The curriculum is designed to provide the knowledge required by the modern practice of Medical Science and, at the same time, includes the social dimension of the medical function. It encourages active learning and critical thinking and incorporates clinical experience from the fourth year of study. Close cooperation with hospital doctors

The Medical School collaborates with more than 120 hospital doctors of the General Hospital of Nicosia, the Archbishop Makarios III Hospital, the Oncology Center of the Bank of Cyprus and the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics, who participate in the clinical training of students and teachers. >

Modern Building Facilities

Since 2016, all the functions and activities of the Medical School are housed in the Siakoleio Training Center of Clinical Medicine (SEKKI), in an attractive, productive and well-equipped environment. SEKKI also houses the Center of Excellence for Biobanking and Biomedical Research (CY – BIOBANK).

On May 11, 2022, the foundation stone of the Building of the Medical School and Health Sciences “Nikos K. Siakolas”, another emblematic building on campus, has been laid. The project is scheduled for completion in 2025. The new building was designed by Antonio Linan and Antonio Gordon (Seville, Spain). Part of the construction cost will be covered by the generous donation of 9 million euros from the “Nikos and Elpida Siakola Foundation”.
