The efforts of the members of the Parliamentary Committee on Trade are intensifying, on the one hand, to protect the consumers from the increases of bank charges and, on the other hand, to protect the very small enterprises from the abusive clauses of the banks.
Yesterday, the members of the competent Committee discussed the two issues in closed session, in order to find a satisfactory formula for amending legislation.

On the issue of bank charges, the first goal of the deputies is to get on the ice, at least for a while, the increases and the second goal is to expand the beneficiaries of the payment account with basic characteristics (LPVX) and to expand the services offered through them. of accounts. That is, an attempt will be made to amend the legislation, so that a new decree can be issued by the Ministry of Finance to open an account with basic characteristics in very small companies and not only by individuals, as is currently the case.
At yesterday's session, it was decided that a draft law will be ready in 15 days, which will be embellished with party proposals. As “F” is informed, MPs, the Financial Commissioner Pavlos Ioannou, as well as state services will contribute to the preparation of the final draft law. The aim of the deputies is to prevent the increase of the charges that will be imposed by the Bank of Cyprus from February 15. From January 3, Hellenic Bank applies new charges. Despite the repeated appeals of the Parliament to the two banks to suspend the increases in the charges, until yesterday no new decision had been notified in the Parliament.
There are many suggestions on the table and an effort will be made to consolidate and present them as a commonly accepted text.
