I welcome the release of innocent EU and US citizens and intact Russian democrats who were held captive in Russia, said the Commission President
The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen called the exchange of prisoners between Russia and Western countries late Thursday night “a moment of great joy”.
“I welcome the release of innocent EU and US citizens and intact Russian democrats who were being held captive in Russia,” Ms. von der Leyen reported via X.
“The Kremlin exchanged them for convicted criminals and murderers. This shows the absolute difference. This is a moment of great joy for those who fought for their freedom”, added the German politician.
Russia and Belarus and Western countries exchanged information at Ankara airport – facilitated by the Turkish spy agency (MİT )— a total of 26 detainees with persons allegedly engaged in espionage and a man serving a prison sentence in Germany for the murder of a Chechen exile in central Berlin in 2019.
