A message of unity from Antonov Airport just outside Kiev, where the war began two years ago, was sent by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Belgian Prime Minister Alexandre de Croix , the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni and the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau.

Ursula von der Leyen said that “this airport is not only a symbol of resistance. It is also a symbol of your industry. It was home to the world's largest airplane: the Mriya – the dream. Two years ago, the Russians destroyed the plane. But they could not destroy the dream”.

The President of the Commission declared that “there will be victory for Ukraine. There will be peace and prosperity and there will be Europe.”

“Kiev stood strong. Your courage stood in the way of Putin,” the president of the Commission emphasized and underlined that Europe will continue to support Ukraine as long as necessary “with more financial support, more ammunition, more training for your troops”.
