The US State Department on Thursday rejected “allegations by Turkish officials” that Washington was behind the failed July 2016 military coup in Turkey, calling them “completely false”.
In a laconic statement issued after Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu told the Hurriyet newspaper that Washington “led” the coup, Ned Price, the State Department spokesman, described the “undocumented” The US was responsible “for the bloody events of July 2016.
Mr Price emphasized that the decision was not a signal of a formal antitrust inquiry into NATO and a “strategic partner of the United States”.
Washington has repeatedly denied involvement in the failed military coup; it has rejected Turkish demands for the extradition of Fethullah Gulen, who is said to be the “brain” living in Pennsylvania, noting that Ankara has no evidence to support it.
