The Minister of Health and the members of the epidemiological team decided to promote vaccination among people over 60, but also especially among people in closed structures and nursing homes.
In meeting held in the morning, re-evaluated the picture of the epidemiological picture, after the increase of positive cases and admissions of patients with coronavirus, in state hospitals.
At the end of the meeting, the Minister of Health, Michalis Hatzipantela, said that “lately there has been an increase in cases and hospitalizations. Today we had a meeting at the Ministry of Health with the members of the SEE. Scientists were given the opportunity to be informed by the Ministry of Health with more information regarding hospitalizations and the number of cases. It was a great meeting and we agreed on the following steps:
-We will focus on promoting vaccination to people over 60 years old and especially to people who are in closed structures and nursing homes, so the Ministry of Health will take action together with the Vaccination Committee to promote vaccination in closed structures and nursing homes, such as we will also start the vaccination program in mountain communities, where we had quite a bit of success last year, specifically in villages like Pachna and Palaichori.
– We also agreed to send a newsletter to the personal doctors regarding the antiviral drugs, that it seems these antiviral drugs are not given to the patients in time, as well as to inform the personal doctors that they should inform the patients over 60 and the vulnerable their patients that they should be vaccinated with the 4th dose, so that we don't have more hospitalizations.
“These were the important things we said today. The Ministry of Health sees the picture every day, we are not complacent, we must all observe the hygiene rules as well as get vaccinated with the 4th dose”, the Minister of Health finally stated
On behalf of the Advisory Scientific Committee, Mr. Giorgos Nikolopoulos emphasized that “today was a really excellent meeting, we thank the Minister for the invitation. Opinions of a high scientific level were exchanged. I think the main message to get across is that there is no need to panic, but in any case vigilance. There are interventions that focus on vaccination, on effective drugs, and we hope that we can have a better continuity”.
