The 1st All-Cypriot Daycare Center, which operates free of charge until 8:00 p.m., as part of the project: “Rainbow” Child Care and Employment Center, implemented by the Nicosia Multipurpose Municipal Center, was visited by the wife of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiadis, Ms. Andri Anastasiadis, Monday morning, January 24, 2023.

Ms. Anastasiadis was welcomed by the Mayor of Nicosia and President of the Versatile Municipal Center of Nicosia, Konstantinos Giorkatzis, the Municipal Councilors Toula Aniftou, Katia Apegitou, Eleni Loukaidou, Leoni Orfanidou and Chrysanthos Fakas, as well as his supervisor, Roula Georgopoulou and the program operators.

In her short statement, Ms. Anastasiadis congratulated the Mayor and the staff of the Multi-Dynamic Municipal Center of Nicosia for the initiative of creating the Child Care Center, which helps children from low-income families, providing its services until 8:00 p.m., while she also referred to the corresponding program that is expected to start soon for elementary school children as well.

For his part, Nicosia Mayor Kontantinos Yorkatzis said:

“I would like to thank Ms. Anastasiadis for her visit today to the Children's Center “Uranio Toxo”, a pioneering new social service program, which enables vulnerable groups of parents to be able to leave their children somewhere until 20:00. In this way, they are given the opportunity to remain in the labor market. Our specific program is a development of the summer school program, which the Municipality started about 10 years ago and related to similar services. To take care of and creatively employ the children of vulnerable groups, so that parents can remain in the labor market for the summer months when schools were closed.

In order to do all this, we receive support, mainly financial, from the Government, which we thank once again and, of course, the President of the Republic and the relevant Ministries, as well as resources from the European Union and the Norwegian Funds.

I would also like to congratulate the Municipality service, where the initiative for the program came from”.

Afterwards, the head of the versatile Nicosia Municipal Center, Roula Georgopoulou, guided Ms. Anastasiadis around the premises of the Children's Center, while together with the Mayor they had the opportunity to answer all her questions, as well as to refer to all the difficulties faced by effort due to loopholes in the legislation.

The Children's Center is housed in the “Georgia Polyviou” building at 27 Herakleous Street, 1016 Nicosia.

The program is aimed at vulnerable groups of the population, it concerns children aged 2 to 5 years old and operates Monday to Friday and hours 07:00 – 15:00 or 07:00 – 18:00 or 07:00 – 20:00.

Registration continues. Applications are only accepted through the online platform “I care” (https://www.nicosia.org.cy/…/munic…/multipurpose-centre/). Necessary for submitting an application is the study of the program's operating regulations
