VitiSaroma: A research project for Xynisteri has been completed

Presentation of the results at a special event in Limassol by Kyperoundas Winery

The results of the research program VitiSaroma designed on the indigenous variety Xynisteri and the results it had in the various applications in different cultivation practices, were presented at a special event held on Friday, May 19 at the Municipal Library in Limassol. The VitiSaroma program was implemented by Kyperoundas Winery and TEPAK in collaboration with Universities of Italy and Greece. The main object of the research project was the exploitation and optimization of the native variety “Xynisteri” under variable vineyard conditions. /strong>, with an emphasis on the aromatic character of the wine produced. The completion of the program comes to support one of the main goals of the Kyperoundas Winery, which is its commitment to the development and promotion of the Xynisteri variety that now makes Cyprus known around the world.

The event began at 10 am with the welcome of the attendees by the chief oenologist of the Kyperoundas Winery, Mr. Minas Minas, while then the Associate Professor at the Department of Agricultural Sciences, Biotechnology & of Food Science of the Cyprus University of Technology, Mr. Giorgos Magganaris, analyzed the basic questions that I posed for the planning of the program, he also analyzed the prospects of the results in the application in the Cypriot vineyards. He was followed by the professor of the Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment of the University of Pisa, Mr. Claudio D’Onofrio, who spoke about the management of grape aromas and the wine produced in the vineyard, while the cycle of speeches was closed by the associate professor of Science & of Food Technology at the University of Tuscia Mr. Andrea Bellincontro with the subject of non-destructive technologies to monitor the quality of grapes in the field during the post-harvest period. The event ended with an open discussion and concluding comments from the attendees.

The attendees, on the evening of Thursday, May 18, also had the opportunity to enjoy Kyperountas Winery wines from the indigenous Xynisteri variety, which were presented by chief oenologist of the Kyperoundas Winery Mr. Minas Minas at a dinner given at the M Fusion restaurant of the Four Seasons Hotel in Limassol.
