The Cypriot who fell victim to an attack by an unknown man in 2014, Andreas Christoforos, states to Sky News that he is “sick”. Six years later, the perpetrator is transferred to open prisons on more favorable terms.

Andreas Christoforos was blind in one eye and was marked for life after the attack on his home in Cornwall in December 2014.

David Phillips had driven 483 kilometers from Sussex to take revenge on someone who thought he had attacked a member of his family, but was simply wrong. Andreas Christoforos was not the one he was looking for.

Phillips was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum sentence of eight years in October 2015 – but the life sentence was overturned a year later.

Instead, the judges sentenced him to 16 years in prison and said he would be eligible for acquittal after serving eight years.

Mr Christoforos told Sky News he was disappointed with the UK judicial system after learning that Phillips had been transferred to open prison and was applying for a day's release.

“It has become very obvious that in the United Kingdom, anyone can throw vitriol at someone's face, ruin their life, cost them physically, emotionally, mentally, possibly cost them millions in hospital costs and police investigation, and they can wasted at most one and a half years of his life behind bars “, were the words of the victim.

“How is it possible for Phillips to come out? “Yes, he is in open prison, but he can go out and enjoy the sun, go out and spend time with his family.”

“He can even go out and find a job and start working again when I're still picking up my pieces.”

Describing the attack on him, Mr. Christoforos said he was working from home when he heard a knock on his door.

After opening the door, the vitriol was thrown in his face, with his intruder saying, “This is for you.”

Mr Christoforos said “every aspect” of his life had been affected by the attack. “There is not an aspect that has not been affected, I do not even sleep normally,” he added.

“I can not play with my sons the way I want. I can no longer play sports “

“I would like to make the most of life, even if I am disabled the way I am because of what David Phillips did to me”

“I stay here, but I still continue to do what I can”

“It's not what I want to do, but it's something. So my life is the best in the worst situation “.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Justice said: “Acid attacks are destroying lives and leaving victims with emotional and physical scars and our thoughts remain with Mr Christoforos.
