Speaking to The Telegraph, Gannon said the rumors had made his position on the council “unsustainable” and that he should resign. Wales City Councilman resigned when is rumored to be Banksy.
William Gannon, 58, became a city councilor in Pembrokeshire after a four-decade career as an artist.
As soon as he took over as consultant, however, rumors began circulating that he was the famous Bristol-based street art artist, who did not reveal his identity. William Gannon believes the rumors were circulated by a rival adviser and has now added a “I Am Not Banksy” section to his official website.
In statements to The Telegraph, Gannon he believes the rumors had made his position on the board “unsustainable” and therefore he had to resign.
“There is no truth in that, I'm not Banksy,” he said. “I was almost in the same place with Banksy almost at the same time doing the same things as a community artist and a lot of the information is cross-referenced. It's so ridiculous that it's hilarious, but there's an ominous element to it. “The joke is to my detriment.” “I live in a Kafka novel.”
