Announcement of the Ministry of Health regarding new cases of COVID-19 disease

The Ministry of Health announces that today, July 8, 2021:

  • No deaths of patients with the ultimate cause of death, COVID-19, have been reported to date, leaving a total of 380 deaths.
  • 107 COVID-19 patients are being treated, of which 28 are in serious condition.
  • A total of 49,032 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).
  • 993 (positivity rate: 2.03%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 81,581 .

The current results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19 disease:

No deaths of COVID-19 patients were reported. Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 disease remains 380, of which:

  • 254 men (67%), and
  • 126 women (33%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 77.3 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 107 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 28 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 28 patients in serious condition, 10 are intubated, one is admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 17 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive cases COVID -19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 49,032 diagnoses made today, 7,924 were made by molecular method (PCR) and 41,108 by antigen rapid test, 993 cases of COVID-19 were identified, which resulted as follows:

  • 71 cases from 699 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 7 cases from 3,305 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 128 cases from 3,457 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 14 cases from 377 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 34 cases from 843 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 739 cases from 40,265 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method.

In addition, the following tests were performed without detecting a case:

  • 86 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
