According to Mr. Letymiotis, the law on Turkish Cypriot properties determines the management of Turkish Cypriot properties, while the lawless situation in our country continues, as a result of the illegal invasion and continued occupation.
“According to official data from the Land Registry Department of the Republic of Cyprus, from the year 1964, Greek Cypriots own approximately 78% of the private land in the areas currently occupied by the Turkish army,” he said.
He further said that those displaced by the Turkish invasion are still prevented today by the Turkish occupying army from returning to their properties, but also from the peaceful enjoyment of them, in violation of Human Rights Conventions, as well as international and national law.
«The Republic of Cyprus protects the right to property, in contrast to the actions of the occupying regime, whose objective is the Turkification of the occupied and the creation of servitudes on the territory, which is contrary to the international human rights law and complicates the efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue”, he emphasized.
