We remain committed to the goal of liberation and reunification, says Presidency Commissioner – “Each one of us feels fully the debt to those who sacrificed for us and the generations to come”

We remain committed to the goal of liberation and reunification of our homeland, said the Commissioner of the Presidency Fotis Fotiou at the presentation of a book – a tribute to the fallen residents of Neo Chorio Kythrea during the Turkish invasion.

In his greeting, which was read by the official of his office, Marianna Christodoulou, according to an announcement by the GTP, Mr. Fotiou said that every reference, every testimony about the sufferings that the Turkish invasion has accumulated on our island, is a reminder of our debt to those who sacrificed for the defense of our freedom, as well as our debt to today's and tomorrow's generations not to be inferior and oblivious, and with responsibility, courage and determination to claim our rights, as they are recognized and determined by the decisions and the resolutions of the United Nations, the verdicts of international courts and every other concept of international law.

Mr. Fotiou noted that the release of the book will certainly function for current and future generations as a valuable historical source of memory for the great contribution of Neo Chorio Kythrea to our pro-freedom and independence struggles.

As he said, “in everyone's memory we reverently close our knees and pray for the vindication of the fight they gave without mistaking that “the Nightmare had already appeared” and “the Medes will finally live”.

Congratulating warmly the President and the members of the Community Council of Neo Chorio for the initiative of publishing this book, Mr. Fotiou wished with them that its circulation would contribute to the further cultivation of young people's love for their place, as well as their fighting debt for the liberation and reunification of our homeland with a return to our hallowed lands.

“We remain firmly committed to this goal. Each one of us feels the full extent of the debt to those who sacrificed for us and the generations to come. Our heart beats the same”, he said and concluded: “The Hellenism of Cyprus will withstand the test, it was tested in its historical past by other barbarians, it will be vindicated and will continue to flourish in this end of the eastern Mediterranean where it has been established, as many other difficulties and challenges if he has to face”.
