The actions of the government for further promotion of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) are stated in a letter-response to the Secretary General of AKEL, Stefanos Stefanou, the Minister of Energy, Natasa Peleidou.
As mentioned by the Minister, regarding the Plan for the Production of Electricity from RES with the final conclusion of the integration of the projects in the Competitive Electricity Market, we recently sent a letter to the Attorney General, asking for his views on whether the Ministry is authorized to modify the Plan, so that “EAC Supply” buys the energy from RES from the producers that have joined the Plan, at the avoidance cost that was in force during the period when the Plan was announced, in order to reduce the price of electricity to all consumers.
Ms. Pileidou lists a series of measures and policies implemented by the ministry, to ensure the greatest possible penetration of RES in electricity generation, while in another part of the letter she mentions the measures adopted by the government to address the increase in energy prices.
It should be noted that according to our information, the above energy issues are expected to be discussed next Wednesday, in a meeting of the President of the Republic with Mr. Stefanos.
