We will not allow the demolition of Solon Michaelidis conservatory, says the Municipality of Limassol – On site the Mayor and members of the Municipal Council

In the process of declaring the historical conservatoryof Solon Michailidis in a listed building, the Limassol Municipality is proceeding from Monday, announcing that it will not allow its demolition. >

The matter saw the light of day from posts in MKD, while it was followed by an announcement by the Environmental Movement – Citizens' Cooperation, according to which a group of architects and activists began an effort to prevent its demolition by the new owner.

At noon, Mayor Nikos Nicolaidis and members of the municipal council went to Georgiou Gennadiou Street, outside the abandoned building, and assurances were given for the rescue of the building.

Specifically, as Mr. Nicolaidis mentioned, just the Municipality was informed, mainly through postings in MKD, about the possibility of demolishing the building, “we notified the Limassol EPA and sent crews from the Limassol Municipality to be here to prevent any attempt to demolish it”.

« Tomorrow, Monday, the process of immediately declaring this building a listed building will be initiated, due to its historical and architectural value”, he said, and added that, from the investigation carried out, no request for its demolition has been identified “and neither will a demolition permit be granted “.

When asked about this, the Mayor of Limassol said that the Municipality will contact the owners tomorrow, “to tell them our intentions for this type of building, so that there are good accounts for everyone”.
