A gradual rise in temperature will be observed from Wednesday, resulting in temperatures higher than the average temperature for the season, especially in the interior, as Panagiotis Georgiou, an official of the Meteorology Department, told KYPE. At the same time, strong winds will be observed in the coastal areas, while the temperature may drop over the weekend.
Mr. Georgiou noted that the ups and downs of the weather are a normal feature of the era we are going through. He added that the systems that affect Cyprus are not winter, which is why the rains that occur are of small extent and intensity. He said that the system that affected Cyprus in the previous 24 hours will leave for good in the afternoon, and after today it mainly affected the Korno, Mathiatis, Kalavasos and some mountainous regions.
Due to a warm air mass that will affect Cyprus from east, on Wednesday the temperature in the interior is expected to reach around 30 degrees, while the average for the season is 26. On the coast the temperature will be around 27-28 degrees, while the winds in the south will reach 5 Beaufort and on other coasts around 4 Beaufort.
When asked if a new wave of dust is expected, together with the rise in temperature, Mr. Georgiou stated that there is no such forecast. He also said that high clouds will be observed, which are not expected to give rain in the coming days. The temperature may drop from the weekend onwards, although the picture of how the weather will move towards the end of the week will become clearer in the coming days, as explained by Mr. Georgiou.
