ACCA & nbsp; (Association of Certified Public Accountants) & nbsp; Cyprus organized a ceremony of new members to recognize and welcome new members to the elite ACCA family and to recognize the students with the highest scores in the exams & nbsp; of & nbsp; ACCA.
The ceremony took place in Nicosia on Wednesday 16 March to celebrate the success and achievements of ACCA members, who & nbsp; acquired membership between 2019-2021.
These new members are part of ACCA's living community worldwide, which now has more than 233,000 members and 536,000 future members in 178 countries.
The ceremony began with a welcome message from its President ACCA Ms. Orla Collins, who told the new members that their generation is vital to the future of sustainable business, as they have the expertise to support the emerging new economy.
This was followed by a greeting from Mr. Abdul Goffar, ACCA Head of Western Europe, who welcomed the guests to the ever-growing family of ACCA members. Mr Goffar added that new members and graduates should be particularly proud as they have qualified as members of the ACCA in & nbsp; difficult conditions and & nbsp; needed & nbsp; to adapt to new realities very quickly as at the same time they took on many responsibilities in the midst of a global pandemic that called for them to make several compromises. He went on to say that members should not look at the night as the end of their journey but the first night of a new journey of professional accountants who will support the future not only of our profession but also of the planet.
In his speech, the Honorary Speaker, former Minister of Finance Mr. Takis Clerides and current Chairman of the Committee on Economy and Competition and a member of ACCA spoke to members about the value of ACCA certification and how it will help shape their careers. He encouraged members to work with values of professionalism and to set their goals & nbsp; and pursue them.
Among the many distinguished guests who represented leading organizations and leading employers in Cyprus was Mr. Pieris Markou President of SELK, the General Accountant Mrs. Rea Georgiou (via internet), Mr. Kyriakos Iordanou General Manager of SELK, Mr. Socratis Efstratiou from Baker Tilly, Mr. Giannis Leonidou from Deloitte, Mr. George Liasis from EY Mr. Stavros Ioannou from Grant Thornton, Mr. Michalis Antoniadis from KPMG and Mr. Filippos Sosilos from PwC.
The ceremony of the new members was an event with more than 400 participants that represented new ACCA members, employers, training centers and institutes and students. The event was held in hybrids with & nbsp; members and & nbsp; guests being able to choose between physical and virtual presence.
