The cancellation of flights and the long delay that consumers often face when they are at the airport, are the main problems that citizens complain about, the Trade and Industry Officer, Anastasia Stylianidou, said on the “NEWS DISTRIBUTION” show. At the same time, Mrs. Stylianidou explained what the travelers' rights are in case of flight cancellation.

When the flight is cancelled, our rights are not activated unfortunately, i.e. monetary compensation is not activated because European legislation gives consumers an amount of 250 euros if their flight is up to 1500 kilometers, 400 euros if it is over 1500 kilometers and 600 euros from 3,500 kilometers and above, said Ms. Stylianidou, pointing out that if the flight cancellation occurs 2 weeks before the scheduled flight, unfortunately we cannot receive this monetary compensation. However, according to the Trade and Industry officer, the options of rescheduling the flight (up to 3 days) or refunding all the money are given.

In case the consumer is abroad and the flight is canceled then the same airline in addition of the compensations it has to give, it should find accommodation for the passenger to spend the night if it is night and return on the next flight within 3 days, said Ms. Stylianidou, noting that the company must also cover the costs of his transportation from and to the airport. It clarified cases of flight cancellation due to weather conditions, plane technical problem and airport control tower strike no additional compensation is given.
