A series of decisions for the agricultural sector was taken today by the Council of Ministers, which include emergency support and approval of programs.
Presenting the decisions, the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Costas Kadis stated that it was decided to provide emergency support to beekeepers with 390,000 euros due to the bad winter that affected the production of pollen and the serious reduction in honey production. He noted that an amount of 340.00 euros is given at a time to support this sector.
The Minister also implemented one of the commitments of the President of the Republic to the farmers of western Nicosia, said Mr. Kadis, saying that a support plan of 0.5 million euros was approved for the pumping of water from deep depths. The investment program of the Ministry for the installation of photovoltaics for pumping water from great depths is in force, he continued.
At today's meeting of the Minister, the Minister of Agriculture stated, the provision of 0.5 million to young, trapped and resettled farmers to invest and operate in the occupied territories.
Mr. Kadis also announced that the Council of Ministers approved a proposal of the Ministry of Labor to extend the period during which it pays social security and other related living expenses of employees to employers who had been affected by the large fire in mountainous Larnaca and mountainous Limassol. He added that more than 500,000 had already been given and with this extension another 650,000 euros will be given to those affected to cover social security and other related expenses.
The Ministry, he continued, was informed today about the preparation of proposals by the Ministry of Agriculture to support breeders due to the situation in which they have found themselves due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. At the next most likely Ministerial Council, said Mr. Kadis, decisions will be taken for specific measures after consultation with the Ministry of Finance.
& nbsp; Costas Kadis also stated that the proposal of the Ministry of Agriculture for the operational sea - fisheries – aquaculture program 2021 – 2027 and the multiannual national strategic plan for aquaculture 2021 – 2030. “This is the main tool to support the aquaculture and fisheries sector in the coming years, with a total budget of 55 million euros ». 70%, he clarified, come from European resources and 30% from the Republic of Cyprus.
He noted that the program promotes sustainable fisheries, sustainable aquaculture, blue growth and sustainable management of the marine environment. The program will be forwarded to the European Commission for final approval, said Mr. Kadis, and will be presented at a press conference in the near future.
