What they were accused of didn't happen” says the Department of Ethics regarding the conclusion of an investigation into the Cyprus Olympic Committee.< /p>

As he notes, the two investigating officers found no evidence to confirm and/or justify the commotion that was created.

    • To the Attorney General three conclusions of the Sports Ethics and Protection Committee

    In detail:

“The Sports Ethics and Protection Committee ( the Committee) announces that it has submitted the result it has completed for the Cyprus Olympic Committee (KOE) to the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth.

At the same time, the investigation by the office of the Auditor General of the Republic of Cyprus was completed, which was given to the investigating officers. The Committee warmly personally thanks Mr. Odysseus Michaelidis for the help he offered to the investigating officers of the Committee.

The investigation began after what was heard in the Institutions Committee of the House of Representatives on 25.10.2023 and 1.11. 2023. In the said sessions of the Parliament, heavy accusations were heard, which primarily insult and tarnish the Olympic Spirit, as well as the members of the KOE.

The accusations were hurled against the President of the KOE, Mr. Giorgos Chrysostomos, and its Vice-President, Mr. Iotis Ioannidis. Of course, accusations were also heard which also concerned the treasurer of the KOE, Mr. Alexandros Christoforou.

The investigation of the investigating officers was strictly limited to what was heard in the House of Representatives and the investigating officers did not investigate anything other than these.

As a result of the above, the honorable Minister of Education, Sports and Youth Ms. Athina Michailidou gave instructions to freeze the funds, which had to be disbursed in favor of KOE.

After an exhaustive investigation, the two investigative officers Committee unanimously came to the conclusion that everything that has been said against both the President of KOE, Mr. George Chrysostomos, as well as the Vice-Presidents, Mr. Giotis Ioannidis and the treasurer, Mr. Alexandros Christophoros, do not correspond in any way to reality. What they were accused of did not happen and the investigating officers did not find any evidence to confirm and/or justify the fuss created around the KOE.

As a consequence of the finding, the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth justifiably released the funds in favor of the KOE.

As part of the Commission's duties, the latter intends to send a letter to President of the KOE, which will indicate issues that must be corrected immediately for the best functioning of the KOE.”
