In a post on social media, a lecturer at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, gives an idea of what mothers face even when it comes to the obvious right to education.

The text of Harita Vlachou, who is a lecturer at the university, describes a day in early March, when the student Christina Gyftaki, went to attend the Master class “Innovation – Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Tourism Development” holding her two-month-old daughter in her arms .

Of course, she was accepted by Charita Vlachou, as she says, “I know very well what it means to want to continue your studies while you are a mother.”

This particular student came many times for class with her daughter, however in the last lecture, the little one looked upset. According to the lecturer, “I approached the mother in an attempt to relax her and asked her teasingly:” Why does little Zoe disagree with what I say… Explain it to her in person? “. I spontaneously spread my arms and took the baby in my arms, continuing my analysis on the business canvas…

The little one immediately calmed down and for the remaining 1.5 hours of the lesson I held her, she did not make a sound!

The post in detail:

It was the beginning of March when the student Christina Gyftaki asked me politely and skeptically if she could attend the Master class “Innovation – Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Tourism Development” holding her 2-month-old daughter in her arms. I accepted immediately and without a second thought because I know very well what it means to want to continue your studies while you are a mother.

During the semester the mother actively participated sometimes with questions she had and sometimes with answers to various questions I asked while the baby, little Zoe, was not heard even once!

In the last lecture, which concerned analyzing the fields of the business canvas, little Zoe was very upset and her mother was anxiously trying to calm her down.

I approached the mother in an attempt to relax her and asked her teasingly: “Why does little Zoe disagree with what I say… Explain it to her in person?”. I spontaneously spread my arms and took the baby in my arms, continuing my analysis on the business canvas…

The little one immediately calmed down and for the remaining 1.5 hours of the lesson I held her, she did not make a sound!

The challenge of teaching two generations at the same time is great… ..but the message is even bigger!

Let us support all those who are fighting for an opportunity for education, especially let us support women and mothers who struggle to succeed in many different roles! They deserve it!

Many thanks to the students who (even without my knowledge!) Captured this moment and surprised me by sending me the photos to remember it! “.
