The WHO Director-General reiterated the need for the international community to learn from the current pandemic of the new coronavirus in order to prepare for the next one.
That is why, he continued, people need to “strengthen” the WHO, secure more, “sustainable funding” and establish a new funding mechanism that will guarantee a quick response when pandemics break out and be better addressed.
He called on the G20 member states to support the establishment of a Health Threat Financing Council and the conclusion of a legally binding international agreement on preparing for and addressing future pandemics.
