Where will the Cypriots turn this year for their summer holidays

There is interest from Cypriots for trips abroad since July, mainly in Greece, as the Spokesperson of the Association of Tour Operators of Cyprus (ACTA) Haris Papacharalambous stated in KYPE.

He noted that the Cypriot will travel this year, perhaps not to the extent that he traveled in 2019 or 2018, but will travel, mainly to Greece and to a lesser extent to Central Europe.

Despite the interest, he noted that this is not at the expected levels, however it is at better levels than 2020. To this, he added, contributes the fact that the green certificate of the European Union enters into force on 1 July, which creates a travel platform. So, he said, the interest for travel is mainly after July while during the three days of the Holy Spirit travel is very limited.

Regarding the prices of travel packages, Mr. Papacharalambous stated that the prices are very reasonable throughout the range of travels at this time. As for airfare prices, he said there is no particular pressure to increase them significantly. He added that in both airline tickets and hotels the prices are reasonable, since yes the demand is limited but the supply is limited and one balances the other, resulting in reasonable prices without being too high or too low.

It is noted that Cyprus follows the categorization of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC) and depending on the country's categorization, travelers coming to Cyprus must either have completed their vaccination or be required to undergo a PCR test. In the second case, the country of arrival determines whether the passengers arriving in Cyprus will be released with two negative tests or will remain in quarantine.

Greece is currently in the red category of ECDC for which two PCR tests are required with a negative result, one 72 hours before arrival and one upon arrival. In case both are negative, the person coming from Greece is not obliged to remain in self-restraint. In case he does a test only upon his arrival in Cyprus, he should remain in self-restraint for three days and then repeat the PCR test, so that he can be released.
