In Omonia, as has been known for some time, the intention is to acquire and build a privately owned stadium.

Stavros Papastavrou, is ready for the next step, as he has bought a large area of land (180 stairs) near Nicosia. The company has already sent a letter to the Department of Urban Planning, so that the area can be demarcated.

After an unscheduled meeting with the President of Omonia, they talked about the issue with the City Council and Nikos Christodoulidis gave an order for a meeting of the Ministers of Interior and Transport to regulate some issues. Omonia has also submitted an application to the Office of the Registrar of Companies for the registration of a company that will manage the entire project, necessary things that must be done in order for the effort to proceed.

Stavros Papastavrou had stated in the summer that his goal is this project to be implemented within the next five years. It is a given that the stadium will be surrounded by many other project activities, but the stadium in particular will cost around 30 million euros and will be category 4. This means that it will be able to host even a group game of a European competition, with a capacity of 15 thousand spectators. The whole project and the other infrastructures (shops, etc.) will cost approximately double the money.

So, based on the facts, the way to the realization of the vision of every Omonoian has been opened. The stadium is also a vision for Stavros Papastavrou and it is expected that we will soon learn more about the new “home” of Omonia.
