With concise procedures, the Government proceeds to an open tender for the creation of a new cell of the Landfill (Waste Landfill) at the Waste Management Unit in Kosi. The decision was made at a meeting at the Presidential Palace last night to discuss the issue. After two suggestions were heard, one from the Ministry of Agriculture for direct negotiation with the contractor for the expansion of the existing CYT cell and a second from the Auditor General and Accountant General for an open tender with concise procedures, but finally the second, proposal.
Speaking after the meeting, Minister Costas Kadis underlined: “The position of the President of the Republic was clear. Transparent procedures, legal procedures, which, however, will ensure the implementation of the project in the coming months so that there is no problem with the operation of the unit. “
The Minister noted that after its closure Kotsiatis garbage dump, which was a contractual obligation of the Republic of Cyprus, the municipal waste of the province of Nicosia is diverted to Kosi. This, he said, worked in the direction of filling the cell in a shorter period of time.
He added that despite the fact that the Ministry of Agriculture proceeded with two tenders, which included the creation of a new cell, these tenders were barren, so today, given that in a few months this space will be full, ways were examined with which we can proceed with the construction of a new cell with the most concise but legal procedures.
“What we came up with was to proceed with an open tender with concise procedures,” he said. He added that they will definitely have the guidance of all the competent bodies and the General Accounting Office and the Legal Service.
He added that the Government will move in this direction in the coming weeks and expressed the hope that there will be the desired result. It is noted that the competition will last only 14 days, time that will be given to anyone interested in undertaking this project.
The meeting analyzed the problem and the consequences in case it is not resolved immediately. As mentioned, the cell will be saturated at the end of October, ie in seven months from today.
