From 2010 to 2021 the state spent almost € 33 million on RES sponsorship projects and energy saving projects, to replace street lighting with new more efficient light bulbs in communities and municipalities and for projects carried out by the Department of Electromechanical Services. Specifically, € 15.9 million was spent on road lighting replacement and € 16.9 million on RES projects by the Electromechanical Service.

More efficient light bulbs

According to data provided to the Parliament by the Ministry of Energy, a total of 25 municipalities and communities proceeded to replace the street lighting fixtures with new more efficient light bulbs, in order to reduce electricity consumption. In detail, twelve municipalities in Nicosia, Larnaca and Famagusta replaced street lighting through the funding plan of the Ministry of Interior.

It should be noted that the ministry granted them loans of € 9 million. Five municipalities in the Province of Nicosia received a loan of € 4.6 million from the competent ministry for the improvement of road lighting. The total amount of the contract entered into by the specific municipalities was € 5.3 million. Based on the data, the municipality of Strovolos received funding from the state € 1.8 million, while the whole project had cost € 2.1 million. The municipality of Agios Dometios received a loan of € 319 thousand from the Ministry of Interior to cover the entire amount of the contract it had signed. At the same time, five municipalities in the provinces of Larnaca and Famagusta borrowed from the competent ministry for the implementation of the project of replacement of street lamps an amount of € 3.3 million, while the total cost was € 3.5 million. The loan received by the municipality of Larnaca was € 1.63 million and the project had cost € 1.61 million. The municipality of Livadia received funding from the state € 354 thousand to cover the project that cost € 396 thousand. The municipality of Athienos borrowed an amount of € 275 thousand. € 203 thousand and the cost of the project was € 236 thousand. In the province of Limassol two municipalities received a state loan of € 1 million for the improvement of road lighting that cost € 981 thousand. In addition, another 13 municipalities “changed their lights” without participating in the ministry's plan. The total amount they spent was € 6.1 million. These are the municipalities of Idali, Geri and Tseri, which paid € 1.5 million for new road lighting. The costs for the municipalities of Deryneia, Lefkara, Ayia Napa and Dromoloxia were at the same levels. In addition, they did not receive a loan from Geroskipou, Polis Chrysochous and Pegeia, which spent € 1.1 million. Electric vehicles and other expenses end of RES

In the same period, ie from 2010 to 2021, expenditures of € 16.9 million were made for RES projects/measures by the Department of Electromechanical Services.
