Today's Turkish Cypriot press outlines the profile of the new “ambassadorof Turkey in occupied Nicosia, Yasin Serim, focusing on his experience in matters of diplomacy and foreign policy.
The newspaper “Cyprus” reports, as reported by the Press and Information Office, that Serim has been an advisor to the Ministry for European Union Affairs (2010-2012), working for the development of Turkey-EU relations. This was followed by positions in the office of the Prime Minister and the Presidency of the Republic, while he was an advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister (2015-2016) and the Minister of Foreign Affairs (2016-2018). His participation in the talks on the Cyprus issue, both in Geneva and in Crans-Montana, was important. From 2018 to 2020, he served as director of the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, while he also assumed the duties of General Director of Global and Humanitarian Affairs of the Ministry (2020-2022), as reported.
The newspaper particularly highlights his tenure as Deputy Foreign Minister, during which he played a crucial role in shaping Turkey's foreign policy, working with leading diplomats such as Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and Hakan Fidan.
The newspaper believes that the Serim's appointment in the occupied territories is an indication of Turkey's determination in the Cyprus issue and its intention to strengthen relations with the Turkish Cypriot community. He emphasizes that this is the first “ambassador” who has studied in Cyprus and knows firsthand the Turkish Cypriot community.
At the same time, “Halkin Sesi” reports that Serim met in Ankara with the Turkish Vice President , Cevdet Yilmaz, with whom they discussed ways to further strengthen relations and cooperation between Turkey and the occupied territories.
Meanwhile, in another development, “Kipris Postasi” writes that the Deputy President of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) Zafer Sirakaya announced that Emre Kaya has been appointed as AKP's representative in the occupied territories.
