Today, the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis, received the Director-General of UNESCO, Mrs. Audrey Azoulay, in New York.

A very productive reunion with the General Directorate of UNESCO @AAzoulay. The very best ways to avoid what UNESCO says is the 75th anniversary of the success of its mission to promote the country through international cooperation in #Education, #Sciences, #Culture. pic.twitter.com/pUlSTJKOVY

At the meeting, it is noted in the announcement, Ms. Azoulei referred to the celebrations for the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Organization and invited President Anastasiadis to attend the celebrations that will take place in Paris on November 12 and will be attended by the UN Secretary General.
They also discussed the prospects of US and Israeli reintegration into the Organization, seeking – as far as possible – our assistance to both countries.
During the meeting, it is added, the special importance that Cyprus attaches to the whole effort to protect the world cultural heritage was emphasized. It is noted that Cyprus actively promotes the Nicosia Convention for the Protection of Cultural Heritage through the criminalization of acts of illegal excavations, thefts, preservation of stolen goods, commercialization and destruction of all kinds of cultural property.
