<p data-block-key=The workers in the operational department of the port of Larnaca went on an indefinite strike from the morning, complaining of a violation of an agreement on working hours and overtime work.

As Nadia Kyritsi, General Secretary of SEGDAMELIN PEO Larnaca, reported to KYPE, “the workers with the support of the SEK unions and PEOs request from the contractor company, the observance of the agreement, which is violated and concerns working hours and overtime employment. Specifically, instead of using its own staff, the company uses external partners,” he said.

He added that “on February 9, after the strike in which the workers in the logistics department went , an agreement was signed on the procedure to be followed for working hours and overtime. Specifically, the agreement provides that the working hours are 07:30 in the morning until 15:30 in the afternoon and when there is a need for overtime work, the employees of the specific department must respond in writing”.

However, he noted, “in case the workers cannot then workers from another department of Kition Ocean Port are used”.

As Ms. Kyritsis “after a conversation with the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, a group of workers goes to Nicosia for a meeting with Alexis Vafeadis, to discuss the problems they face”.
