Workshop: Building structures for intercultural integration in Nicosia and Famagusta provinces

The Center for Social Cohesion, Development and Care (CODECA) and the research center CARDET are organizing on April 27, 9:00 – 14:00, at the University of Nicosia (Cine Studio), a conference under the title Building Structures for Intercultural Integration in Cyprus: The cases of Nicosia and Famagusta.

At the conference, which will be held in English, the Intercultural Strategies and Action Plans to promote the intercultural integration of immigrants in the provinces of Nicosia and Famagusta that have been formed with the support of the Intercultural Cities (ICC) program will be presented, analyzed and signed. of the Council of Europe.

The Conference is a prime opportunity to inform local government bodies, civil society organisations, stakeholders and the public about the project 'Building Structures for Intercultural Integration in Cyprus' which is being carried out with the support of the ICC program . In addition, the project experts will present the proposals and recommendations that have been formulated and explain how the strategies can be used to shape future actions to support intercultural dialogue and the integration of immigrants. At the same time, within the framework of the work of the conference, which will be prefaced by Mr. Michalis Beis from the Department of Population Records and Immigration, today's realities in the fields of education, employment and social cohesion will be analyzed.

Specifically, Agamemnon Zachariadis, CEO of CODECA, will present the data recorded in the field of education and the development of the language skills of immigrants. Additionally, Dr. Stefanos Spaneas, Executive Director of CODECA, will make a speech-presentation on social cohesion and the integration of immigrants into society. Afterwards, Markella Papanikolaou, Head of the YouthShare project, and Desiree Birinci, representative of the Cyprus Council for Refugees, will analyze the actions they implement for the labor integration of immigrants. Afterwards, Dnis Anna Savvidou-Michailidou, representative of the Municipality of Idali, will carry out an analysis of the commitment and actions that the local government bodies should demonstrate in order to strengthen the intercultural dialogue at the local level. Finally, the Coordinator of the Network, Nenad Bodganovic, will address and present the plan for intercultural integration in Cyprus as it was formed through the work of the Network.

At the end of the Conference there will be lunch.< /p>

The project Building Structures for Intercultural Integration in Cyprus is implemented by the Intercultural Cities Program and the Directorate General Structural Reform Support of the European Commission, in collaboration with the Department of Population Records and Immigration of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Cyprus.

The aim of the project is to support the Republic of Cyprus in the implementation of the National Action Plan for the integration of third party nationals countries 2020-2022, empowering local authorities, NGOs and migrant organizations to participate in the integration process.
