The Ministry of Agriculture and the Cyprus Agricultural Payments Organization will announce a financial support intervention in the wine sector of more than half a million euros at the end of January 2024, according to Minister Petros Xenophontos. Approved winemakers will have the right to apply.

In his greeting at the opening of the Viticulture Sector Advisory Services Center at Vouni Limassol, at noon, the Minister of Agriculture said that the intervention is part of the Common Agricultural Policy Objectives for the period 2023-2027 “Material and Intangible Investments in Innovation”. The goal, as he underlined, is the development of innovative products, processes and production technologies as well as other investments that add value to the supply chain.

“In this context, I am pleased to announce that by the end of January 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment and the Cyprus Agricultural Payments Organization will jointly announce the said intervention with the beneficiaries of the approved winemakers. The Research and Development Centers can participate in the action carried out by the beneficiaries in question. The total EU aid for the implementation of the Intervention amounts to €595,000 for the entire programming period. The possibility of increasing the amount in question is also kept, depending on the interest that will be there,” said the Minister.

Mr. Xenophontos referred to the importance that the Government of Nikos Christodoulidis attaches “to the particularly sensitive wine-growing sector and symbolizes the exceptional priority it shows in the preservation and further development of the wine-growing regions of the country. In particular, as the responsible Ministry, we fully understand that the success of the wine sector is related to the continuous and major challenges that should be dealt with aggressively. Therefore, for the period we are going through until 2027, the Strategic Plan of the Common Agricultural Policy will allocate, through the interventions of the wine sector, more than €22 million to winegrowers and winemakers”.

Congratulations to the co-organizers of the event for the efforts and initiatives they undertake, with the aim of progressing the community of Vouni, stressing that for the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment the protection, promotion and promotion of the wine sector and of traditional products are a strategic choice.
