Yellow warning for strong storms-The bad weather EVA arrives in Cyprus

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for severe thunderstorms.

According to the warning, locally severe thunderstorms are expected to affect the area from time to time. The intensity of the rain is expected to vary between 35 and 50 millimeters per hour with possible hail.  

The warning will be in effect from 12 noon on Monday until 20: 00.

Detailed weather forecast  

The barometric low called “EVA” and centered in the southern Ionian, is moving southeast and weakening, while it is expected to affect the weather in the region, mainly from noon on Monday.

Tonight there will be occasional increased clouds, which are likely to give isolated showers, mainly in coastal areas. Winds will be mainly south-west to north-west and locally to north-east, weak, 3 Beaufort and transient locally on the south and east coasts to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be calm to a little rough. The temperature will drop to around 13 degrees in the interior, around 15 on the south and east coasts, around 16 on the rest of the coasts and around 8 degrees in the higher mountains.

Tomorrow, initially in the early hours of the morning there will be locally increased clouds, but gradually from the west the weather will become partly cloudy in several areas and isolated rain is expected, without excluding an isolated storm. From noon onwards, however, the weather will become mostly cloudy with rain and local storms. Locally, in some cases, storms may be severe and accompanied by hail. The winds will blow mainly southeast to southwest and locally variable weak to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort and gradually locally moderate, 4 Beaufort, while transient in windward coastal areas up to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will gradually become a bit rough. The temperature will rise to around 24 degrees in the interior and on the coasts and around 13 degrees in the higher mountains.

Tomorrow night the weather will initially be partly cloudy and locally mostly cloudy, while local showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected. Gradually the effects weaken significantly. The winds will initially blow variable weak, 3 Beaufort, to gradually become mainly northwesterly and northeasterly, of the same intensity. The sea will gradually become calm to a little rough, but on the western coast it will remain a little rough.

On Tuesday the weather will be partly cloudy, while isolated rains are expected without ruling out an isolated storm, initially mainly in eastern and northeastern regions and gradually in the highlands and interior. From late afternoon the weather will improve.

On Wednesday and Thursday, isolated showers or an isolated thunderstorm are initially expected mainly in eastern and northeastern coastal areas, but clouds will gradually develop and isolated showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected , mainly in southern mountainous areas, especially on Wednesday.

The temperature is not expected to change appreciably until Wednesday, to fluctuate near or even slightly below the average climatic values ​​for the season. It is expected to rise slightly on Thursday.
