YPAN: Compulsory participation in the four months for private schools “of the same type”

Citing excerpts from private school legislation, the Ministry of Education responds to reports about a private school that does not hold four-month exams, noting that only private schools are required to participate in the four-month written assessment of the same type as the public ones.

Specifically, it cites the five paragraphs of article 11 of the "On Private Schools Law of 2019", where it is specified that "a private school may be of the same, similar or different type in relation to the type of public schools".< /p>

According to the legislation, "same type" is considered the school whose main language of instruction is Greek and which follows the timetable, the syllabus and the study programs of all academic subjects by study cycle, the implementation of the syllabus, the participation in the Pan-Cypriot and other examinations of the Ministry, as well as the public schools.

In addition, the legislation states that “a Greek-speaking private school of a similar type to a public school is the school, in which the main language of instruction is Greek and in which the following are taught: for the study cycle of the Lyceum or the Technical School, all the courses included in the common core of public schools at least two-thirds in terms of the Analytical Program, the Time Program and the Study Programs intended for public schools, as well as the set of courses of direction at least two-thirds in terms of in the Analytical Program, the Timetable and the Study Programs provided for the public schools in the specific study cycle.

"Alphonse private school similar to public school" is the school in which the main language of instruction is a language other than Greek and in which all the subjects included in the common core of public schools will be taught for the study cycle of the Lyceum or the Technical School at least two-thirds of the what concerns the Analytical Program, the Timetable and the Study Programs of the three years of study for the six-form schools or four years of study for the seven-form studies provided for the public schools, as well as the total of the orientation courses at least two-thirds s‘ as far as the overall material provided for public schools in the specific study cycle is concerned.

On the other hand, "a private school of a different type from a public school" is the school, which does not fall into any of the above types and which follows the Analytical Curriculum, Timetable and Curricula according to the educational system of another country.

Therefore, states the announcement of the Ministry, “only Private Schools of the same type have mandatory participation in the Written Quarterly Evaluation”. In addition, it clarifies that regarding the admission of graduates of any type of school to foreign universities, this is done through international exams.

Finally, the Ministry states that specific cases where private schools advertise the procedures assessment in public schools, are examined by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
