Zelensky hails "heroism" of soldiers fighting hard battles

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today praised the "heroism" of his army, at a time when fierce fighting is raging in the south of the country, to the point that he refers to the long-announced Kiev counterattack.

"To our soldiers, to all those who entered into particularly harsh battles these days. We are witnesses of your heroism and we are grateful for every minute of your life,'' Zelensky said tonight in his daily message.

Kiev announced that its forces are ready to counter-attack to retake territory in the east and in the south, but clarified that no official announcement should be expected.

Earlier today, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Ukrainian counteroffensive that "began" failed.

Tonight, President Zelensky did not mention a possible counterattack or a special military operation

"We are focusing our attention on all the places where our action is required and where the enemy can be defeated”, he declared.
