Positive climate in talks between guilds and hoteliers – The submission of a proposal by the Ministry is expected. Work next week – What Filokypros Rousounidis told Economy Today
The negotiations for the renewal of the Collective Agreement in the hotel industry are in the final stage, with positive indications from all parties involved. The General Secretary of the Federation of Hotel Employees and Leisure Centers (OUXEKA-SEK), Michalis Fragou, and the General Director of the Pancypriot Association of Hoteliers (PASYXE), Filokypros Rousounidis, expressed their optimism for an imminent agreement, underlining the positive direction taken by the consultations.
In particular, in his statements on state radio, Mr. Fragou expressed his optimism for an imminent agreement, emphasizing the positive response to last week's meeting. As he noted, the mediation service of the Ministry of Labor is expected to submit its proposal within the coming week. Despite the possibility that further mediation will be needed, he said the mood is positive and there is hope for a fair and reasonable conclusion to the negotiations.
According to Mr. Fragou, the goal of the Federation remains to reach a proper and fair collective agreement, which will cover all workers in the hotel industry, regardless of whether they are union members or not. At the same time, he referred to seasonality and the presence of many foreign workers in the sector, underlining that there is a constant number of workers who do not belong to unions.
F. Rousounidis: I hope that logic will prevail
For his part, the Director General of PASYXE, Filokypros Rousounidis, in his statements to Economy Today, agreed with the assessment of Mr. Fragos, pointing out that the consultations are being conducted in a good atmosphere and that the two sides are approaching the process with a positive sign. However, Mr. Rousounidis stressed the need to improve the mediation process, adding that PASYXE will submit its own views and requests to the competent department of the Ministry of Labor within the week.
“I hope that among the union organizations will be governed by reason and the well-meaning interest of industry in general. If this is achieved, it will certainly be something good for the workers in the industry, which we need so much,” said Mr. Rousounidis. He also referred to the improvements that have been made in filling staff gaps, but stressed that the staffing process must continue as the industry evolves and it is important to adapt to the new needs of the industry.
The successful completion of the consultations is expected to bring significant benefits to the hotel industry, which is one of the pillars of the Cypriot economy. With the cooperation of all stakeholders, the new collective agreement can ensure improved working conditions and stability for the industry.
