A man from the village of Paramali was arrested and detained this morning on charges of poaching and illegal possession of firearms, following a joint operation by the British Base Police and the Republic of Cyprus.
In all, six houses were searched, two of them inside BB, as police searched for hares and partridges that had been killed illegally. During a search of the detainee's home, police found a hare, a shotgun, a number of cartridges and a four-wheeled motorcycle that had been reported stolen.
The coordinated operations took place between 8.30 p.m. and 11.30 a.m. and according to the Senior Lieutenant, of the BB, Panikos Panagi, the operation proved to be successful. He explained: “There is excellent cooperation with our colleagues in KD and the information between us, allowed us to successfully execute these six warrants in the homes.”
