The Democratic Party, which is so far the only one of the parliamentary parties that has not announced its MEP candidates, is on a reverse course to announce its ballot.
The name of Themis Anthopoulou for the DIPA ballot, which was leaked to Politis yesterday, has officially been included in the discussions and, according to the information, it should be considered closed. Ms. Anthopoulou is currently the General Secretary of the Pancypriot Organization of Persons with Disabilities and will participate in the DIPA ballot as an Aristinian candidate.
The issue of the former Minister of Interior and Health, Christos Patsalidis, remains open, from whom, as our information reports again, the DIPA leadership expects answers within days. If it closes positively with Christos Patsalidis, it is estimated that there will be announcements immediately. Party sources, however, clarify how there is an open line with other people to be on the ballot for the European elections.
The names of MPs Alekou Tryfonidis and Michalis Giakoumis, as well as the vice president of the party, should be taken for granted. Marino Cleanthos. The name of the Executive Director of Europa Donna Marios Charalambidis is also heard strongly.
During yesterday's day, ELAM also announced its female MEP candidate, completing the six on its ballot, which it also officially announced.

The president of the DISY, Annita Dimitriou, came out strongly yesterday once again in the last few days, stressing how the Democratic Alarm as a Faction has nothing to do with brutality or extremism. He also answered indirectly about the case of Marios Pelekanos, without mentioning his name. “We are not begging anyone, nor does anyone who exploits the party for personal gain have a place in DISY, or someone who does not embrace their positions. A cleanup never hurts when needed.”
From Pindaros' point of view, it seems that an attempt is being made to organize a counterattack to deal with the spread of messages on Social Media by ELAM against DISY positions. Yesterday, a video was released with the party's member of parliament and deputy press representative, Fotini Tsiridou, who responded to ELAM by denouncing organized Fake News.
“Against the propaganda and misinformation that some organize every day, we will repeat our positions and principles. And after being asked, we repeat that yes, we do not have any political identification with ELAM and everyone should know that”, he noted, emphasizing how DISY supports a DDO solution. “Which is not Turkey's position as ELAM anecdotally reports, but the timeless position of our side, a solution that all Cypriot Presidents have tried to bring. Calling Kostas Mavridis to participate in the ballot box
Issues of current affairs, such as the upcoming European elections, migration flows, socio-economic issues, issues of security and cooperation in the European Union and the rise of the extreme right on a pan-European level were put on the carpet during a meeting of MEP, Costas Mavridis (Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats) with journalists in Nicosia.
On the sidelines of accounting for his actions, the MEP referred to the unprecedented challenges and crises that both Cyprus and the European continent have faced in the last five years, noting that the Russian invasion of Ukraine raised the issue of the security and defense of the European Union .
He mentioned that for the first time the European Union was faced with the pandemic by reacting with the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism. “For the first time the Union borrowed collectively and distributed a huge amount to the member states. Cyprus also benefited from this,” said Mr. Mavridis, adding that he was a negotiator on behalf of his political group of the legislative framework for the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism.
He also noted that in June 2021, following his own initiatives, an honorary event was organized, under the auspices of the European Parliament, for the health professionals of Cyprus, who gave, with selflessness and professionalism, as he said, the frontline battle against the pandemic of the coronavirus.
He also added that for the first time the President of the Political Committee for the Mediterranean was elected from Cyprus or Greece, with himself occupying the position. He explained that “the Commission in question has an important role to play not only for reasons of climate change, migration flows, energy issues, but of course also for security issues”.
Speaking about the upcoming European elections, in which Mr. Mavridis is also standing as a candidate, he stated that “my opinion is that they should go and vote because as active citizens we co-shape our future, the future of Cyprus in the European Union” while he said that “if the citizens do not participate in this process of the European elections, unfortunately, the decisions will be made in their absence”.
A. Assiotis presented his positions
The independent candidate for the Presidency of the Nicosia Provincial Organization of Self-Government, Andreas Assiotis, yesterday presented his programmatic positions, in view of the local government elections, stating that the formulation of the said program was based on the knowledge and experience he acquired through his long-term course in the public service.
According to a related announcement, Mr. Assiotis focused on the policies of his program concerning, among others, water supply, drainage and stormwater management, the management of urban waste facilities, but and the goals it sets with regard to the expansion of the EOA's powers, and horizontal policy issues.
Referring to the challenges that the Nicosia EOA will face, he said that despite any preliminary work that will be done until July 1st, the integration of personnel, administrative and operational processes requires intensive work and cooperation between the President and the Council, the employees of the Provincial Government Organization and their Unions.
