“The Statute of the Church of Cyprus clearly defines the rights and powers of the Holy Synod and how an ecclesiastical trial is conducted”, said Archbishop George

What is being done with the case of the Monastery of St. Avvakum is within the Statute of the Church and everything is legal, Archbishop George of Cyprus said today, noting at the same time that the trial will be conducted normally.

Archbishop George was summoned by journalists on the sidelines of the inauguration of the “Nikos Mougiaris” amphitheater hall, of the Athenian School Board to comment on the developments in relation to the case of the Monastery of St. Avvakoum.

“The Statute of the Church of Cyprus clearly defines what the rights are and the powers of the Holy Synod and how an ecclesiastical trial is conducted”, said Archbishop George.

What is being done with the case of the Monastery of St. Avvakum, he added, “is in the Statute of the Church and everything is legal” .

“The trial will be conducted normally”, he said.

“Do not be misled by those who think that in this way they will vote for or against one of the groups involved”, he concluded the Archbishop George.
