The 31-year-old, a municipal councilor and former candidate for MP, stated today before the Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca – Famagusta, that he did not admit to the accusation for illegal intercourse with a woman without her consent.
During today's proceedings, the representative of the Prosecution Authority reported to the suspect the accusation of illegal intercourse with a woman, which was committed on January 1, 2011, without her consent.
The accused responded “no admission” to the charge and the Criminal Court set October 6, 2021 for the continuation of the hearing process.
It is noted that the Prosecution Authority withdrew the second charge faced by the accused and related to kidnapping for the purpose of hidden and unjust restraint.
Information from KYPE states that the representative of the Prosecution Authority asked the Criminal Court for the accused to hand over his travel documents, however there was an objection from his defense lawyer.
Finally, the Criminal Court rejected the request of the Prosecution Authority and ordered the accused to sign a bail of 20 thousand euros and to appear once a week at a Police Station.
It is noted that the complainant made public her complaint of rape by Social Media in early April, and then proceeded to an official complaint to the Police, while the suspect had given his own allegations in the case.
It is recalled that in early May, the Legal Service gave the green light to the Police to proceed with the registration of the case before the Larnaca District Court with the aim of referring it directly to a Criminal Court, since the charge of rape is considered a felony.
The case was registered on May 7 before the Larnaca District Court, which today referred the accused to a direct trial before the Permanent Criminal Court of Larnaca – Famagusta, which met today.
